Reading --
In reading class, we will be learning all about the
TEXT FEATURES that are found in nonfiction books.
The students will be introduced to a variety of text features (table of contents, headings, index, and several more) and they will learn how these text features can help us as readers.
Each student will be making a
TEXT FEATURE BOOKLET of their own and we will be building a class interactive word wall to help us keep track of all these important parts of nonfiction.

Writing Workshop--
In writing workshop, we will be starting our new writing unit -- WRITING NONFICTION.
We will be starting our new unit by planning out our writing and then jumping right in with starting our chapters.
Students will use their idea sheets they completed for homework last week --
THANK YOU!!!
As we continue through the week, students will take ideas they have seen while READING nonfiction and use those ideas in their own writing pieces-- using author's craft to help make their own pieces even better! We will also take a close look at how to ELABORATE in our writing.

Math --
We have a Math Test on Tuesday, October 8th !
The test will be over
Addition and Place Value.
A blue test review was sent home with your child on Friday (9/27).
Please review with your child all the different concepts.
There is a concept page glued in your child's math notebook.
Your student should be bringing their math notebook home every day
in order to study --
PLEASE make sure the notebook comes back to school each day!
We have a busy week in math!
On Monday, we will be spending our time reviewing for our test!
The rest of our week we will be enforcing our knowledge through math stations. We will be focusing on regrouping and learning the traditional algorithm for double digit addition.

Science --
This week in science, we will be doing various
hands-on activities to learn about physical properties.
We will start the week off by introducing chemical and physical changes. We will then explore physical changes by creating paper airplanes and test out flying them in our classrooms.
By making paper into airplanes, we will see a PHYSICAL CHANGE -- the shape or size of the paper will change,
but it is still the same matter = paper.
We will end the week with students working together
to create straw tower projects!!
