Here is a song that we have listened to,

This week in reading class,
we have a busy week!
We will be looking at dialogue tags in our reading and learning about how using them will help make our reading more fluent.
We will also work at matching our voice to our reading -- even when we read in our head.
Students will need to bring their devices to school (if they have one available
-- if not, we will have plenty of class iPads available)
on THURSDAY for our reading TEST review.
We do have a reading TEST on Friday, January 17th.
The review sheet came home last Thursday (1/9).

Writing Workshop --
Writing --
We are LOVING our new unit of study for writing workshop -- POETRY!
We will learn about strategies that poets can use to help with choosing writing topics, and we will be writing poems on topics that each student will choose. We will also work on making sure our word choices help the reader visualize what we want them to see when reading our poems.
Grammar--
We have an ADJECTIVE TEST on TUESDAY, JANUARY 14th!
The review sheet came home on January 7th.
Phonics --
We are working hard at tackling longer / harder words in our reading. One strategy that we will learn about is double consonants in the middle of words and how that can help guide us as we take on harder words in our reading!

Math--
In math class this week, we will start our new unit --- Telling Time.
We will discuss how the clock is a circular number line.
Students will review the hour and minute hands.
We will begin by using the Judy clocks (hand held clocks that we use to practice telling time with) to tell time to the 5 minute interval
and then to the minute interval.
Later in the week, we will reinforce our knowledge of
time in guided math stations.
Students will practice drawing the clock hands to the
five minute interval and then to the minute.
