In reading class this week, we will look at literary language in our reading, and understanding it . We will look at comparisons in our reading, and playful language. Students will work to recognize these elements in their reading and to figure out the meaning.
Writing --
We have been working hard in writing workshop to write poems, so it will be fun this week to learn more about the components of poems.
We will learn about stanzas, lines, poet, white space, and repetition.
Learning these important parts of poems will help us as we write more and more of our own poems too.
We will also try writing acrostic poems and shape poems this week.

Phonics--
In phonics we are working on TACKLING LONG WORDS PART BY PART.
This week we will look at breaking up challenging words with the ending le,
and we will tackle challenging words carefully, slowly, and methodically.
(The anchor chart pictured here shows the rules we have been learning to help us with longer, harder words.)
Math --
In math class this week, we will continue our unit of Telling Time. We will use Judy clocks to practice using the hour and minute hand. This week, students will be focusing on telling time to the minute. We will also be discussing the meaning of A.M. and P.M..
Students will focus on these certain vocabulary words:
midnight, noon, dawn, mid-morning, afternoon, and evening
We will finish our week celebrating the 100th day
of school with an Unlock Challenge!!
