Reading --
We will continue with our series book clubs this week. We worked hard on studying characters before the break, so this week we will look at them closer. This week, we will concentrate on what the character is DOING IN the books and across the series. We will look at PRECISE words in our reading to create clear pictures to understand what is happening with our characters.
Writing --
We will be writing more letters this week about our reading. Before the break, we were writing about our characters, but this week we will start looking at our favorite parts of books and sharing those with our readers. We will also work at keeping our audience in mind as we write our letters.
Phonics--
In phonics, we will start our new unit this week: WORD BUILDERS.
Math --
In math, we will continue to learn strategies to add three digit numbers with and without regrouping. We will begin the week focusing on the traditional algorithm. The rest of the week we will be reinforcing our knowledge through math stations. The students will be reviewing all of their addition strategies.
Science --
This week in science we will be starting our new unit on Organisms!
This week students will be working in groups to create a basic needs web for an assigned organism.
Students will need to think about these basic needs: shelter/habitat, food, water, and air. We will also be discussing how some animals hibernate or migrate.
Later in the week, students will be conducting a survey on their classmates in order to write an opinion piece on either hibernation or migration!
