Thanksgiving Break--
NO School for the week of Nov. 25-29th
Reading --
This week in reading, we will be digging deeper into our fiction books. Our focus will be characters, and we will be paying close attention to the traits that describe them.
We will look at our character's actions and what they say to help us infer character traits that describe each character. We have also been working on predicting and keeping track of our characters in our books.
HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS
Your child will READ the words to their teacher on Tuesday, November 19th.
You should be studying the 2nd grading period
words with your child.
They need to be able to read the whole list for this grading period.
Thanks for your help!

Writing Workshop / Grammar--
In writing workshop, we are in the planning stages of our realistic fiction stories. We are thinking about the sequence of our stories and how our characters will act in different situations that we are going to write about in our own writings.
This week in writing, your child will have a COLD SAMPLE writing. This will be a test grade, but there is no preparation at home for a cold sample writing. The students will be writing a SMALL MOMENT (personal narrative), and showing what all they know (capital letters and proper punctuation, using a hook to start their piece, etc.)
In grammar, we will be learning all about ADJECTIVES. Now that we are professionals with nouns, it is time to learn how to make our writing even better by using adjectives. We will be working on recognizing them in writing and we will try to use them in our writings also.

Math--
In mathematics, we will be starting our new unit on Money. Initially, we will be exploring all of the different coins. Who is on each coin? What are their values? Students will practice how to skip count by using the coins values.
During this time we will also be using a 100 chart to sort coins
from greatest to least and add them together.
Later in the week, we will be doing various math thanksgiving stations to review different concepts we’ve learned throughout the year.

Science--
In science, we will continue to review about the different types of forces we have learned. Students will be working on their final project over Force and Motion. They will be having to list different examples over push, pull, motion, slide, spin, and roll. They will also have to provide different items that are attracted to magnets.
Social Studies--
In social studies we will be looking at Thanksgiving as an American holiday.
