Reading--
In reading class, we will be finishing up our NONFICTION unit of study this week. We will be looking closely at how book topics are similar and different, and how they help us become experts. We will also look closely at books that are about the same topic and look at how we can learn across the different books.
We will finish the week with a TEST over nonfiction text and nonfiction text features.
The review sheet came home on
Thursday, October 31st.
Please be sure to go over the text features with
your 2nd grader.
** Students will need to bring devices on Thursday, as we will have a SOCRATIVE review in class to prepare for Friday's test.

Writing Workshop--
We are excited to publish our nonfiction books this week in writing workshop.
The students have been creating nonfiction books the past several weeks, and this week they finally get to "fancy them up" and publish them. Students will share their pieces at the end of the week with others, and we are excited to share the books in our classroom library very soon!

We will also look at being careful spellers when we are writing! We will learn that 2nd graders need to be on the lookout for troublesome words and be sure to slow down when we get to them in our reading and writing.
Math--
In math, we are continuing to focus on our different strategies that help us subtract two digit numbers.
On Monday, we will be learning how to use the standard algorithm to help us subtract. We will be focusing on how to regroup when subtracting.
The rest of the week we will be reinforcing our knowledge through math stations. The students will be reviewing both their addition and subtraction strategies.
Science --
In science, we will continue to investigate the concept of forces.
Students will be going to the science lab multiple times this week to participate in various activities.
We will first be focusing on Magnets. Students will be testing different objects to decide if each object is magnetic or not.
Later in the week, students will have the opportunity to design their own roller coasters using pipe insulation, cups, and rubber balls!
