Reading--
This week, we will continue to learn about NONFICTION TEXT FEATURES.
Each student is making a booklet about the different features.
We are also learning how each text feature HELPS us as readers.
The students are having so much fun reading nonfiction books and searching for the different text features in their reading.
Writing Workshop --
In writing workshop, we are such experts!
The students are working on their nonfiction books. They have been writing about things they are "experts" about.
This week, we will continue to write our nonfiction pieces and we will work to set goals for our writing each day.
We are working to make our pieces longer and full of facts, but we will also learn to think about our audience.

Phonics Workshop --
We will be reviewing the r controlled vowels with an assignment in class.
We will also remember that we are ALWAYS word detectives -- in our reading and in our writing!
Later in the week, we will review that the silent e is pretty sneaky and can make the vowel sound LONG.
Math --
In math class, we will continue our station rotation on double digit addition. We have been focusing on the traditional algorithm with the
concept of regrouping.
This week the students will be strengthening their understanding of adding double digit numbers with various activities.
Later in the week, students will begin a fun project to review our
place value skills and the four forms of numbers:
standard, expanded, written, and model form!

Science--
Please have your child bring a rock for science class on Wednesday (10/16). We will be completing various activities with our rocks!
We have a busy week in science. This week we will be doing multiple hands-on labs to review for our unit on physical properties and classifying matter.
We will explore how to change the physical state of matter by applying heat, and compare and contrast different items and their properties.
Later in the week, students will be using their
rocks to describe its texture, shape, mass, etc.
Students will then be observing other rocks in the classroom to
see if their rock has similar or different properties.
