Reading --
In reading class, we will be working on our retelling skills. We will also take a close look at what authors do to make us react as readers (laugh, cry, gasp, etc.) and what they want us to learn from our reading. We will end the week looking closely at the big ideas in our fiction books and how it will help us understand what we are reading.

Writing--
This week, we will be learning all about INTERROGATIVE and DECLARATIVE sentences during grammar time.
INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES are QUESTIONS.
DECLARATIVE SENTENCES are statements (telling sentences).
In writing workshop, we are writing away!
We are still working on our personal narratives,
but this week we will try to use some
author's craft from the books we have been enjoying in class in our own writing pieces .

Phonics--
We will avoid or fix common high-frequency word mess-ups by using various strategies. We will remember that even when words are tricky, it may just be a part of the word that is the tricky part.

Math --
This week we will continue working on our knowledge of Place Value. We will also be starting math stations! We will be introducing the different routines and procedures during math workshop. For instance, how to use the materials, how to transition, voice level, how do we clean up, where do we turn in our work, etc.
The teacher will introduce the students to the math rotation chart that will be displayed on the SmartPanel for rotations. Students will rotate through four different stations during math workshop (Skill Practice, Number Concepts, Teacher Table, and Technology). We will also be introducing DreamBox as our technology station this week.
If your child has not logged onto DreamBox at home, please remember students should be completing lessons at home as well. Our school code is 2tt4/myt4.
The Mighty Mathematicians September menu will be due on September 30, 2019. This is an excellent way to help your child improve their math skills and numeracy. Menus were sent home in the communication folder two weeks ago.

Science--
We had an exciting time completing our Lung Model Lab last week. Was your child able to explain the model to you?
Thank you so much to the parents who sent supplies.
We had ten moms come to school
to prepare materials for the lab.
You saved us so much time! Thank you!
We will have more sign-ups throughout the year to help
with supplies for our labs.
We have a Science Test on Wednesday, September 18th over Body Systems.
Please encourage your student to bring their science notebook home every day in order to study (but bring it back to school each day).
The test will be covering the Heart, Lungs, and Brain.
This week we will also be starting our new unit on MATTER!
We will be exploring the different physical properties
and begin an interactive word wall in our classroom!
